The project aimed to raise awareness of the plight of the bees amongst children from North Powys and their local communities. Buttington Trewern, Llanfyllin and Banw school worked with Hilary and Graham Roberts in a variety of media and processes integrating STEM – ranging from graphic design, constructional design, film, ceramics, glass and textiles. Buttington Trewern pupils looked at the project from a “bee” point of view i.e. what would a bee look for in finding a home and built a full size working “bee hotel” together with sales brochures. Llanfyllin‘s made an animation illustrating a day in the life of a beehive using 2D paper animation and pixelation, Banw undertook a business and enterprise approach to their artistic outcomes. The pupils researched the flowers that are beneficial to bees together with candles and candle light. This generated ideas for saleable art products – packaged seed bombs, ceramic candle holders and wall posters. The project culminated in a very successful “Gwenyn Prysur” fair held for parents and the village.
