Arts Extravaganza is a project aimed at adults with learning disabilities that has been running successfully for nearly 15 years.

Adults from Cae Melyn, Leighton Day Base, Mencap, Rhoslyn and Cerrig Camu and the local community took part this year. They attended 4 sessions at Castle Caereinion community centre, over the summer taking part in storytelling, music and visual arts workshops. This year we themed the project around the “Zodiac”, participants could express and create work based upon this theme. In one visual arts workshop, with Alex Allpress, they used different modelling techniques with clay to make plaques based on their own star sign and also group pieces for their Chinese year animal. They worked with Janet Farahar to create flags and group pieces. They created music and storytelling performance with Sharon Calder, taking inspiration from the elements linked to star signs. Towards the end of the final day participants had a lot of fun displaying and sharing their work with each other.
