Arts Extravaganza is a project aimed at adults with learning disabilities that has been running successfully for over 10 years. 17 Adults from Leighton Day Base, Mencap, Rhoslyn, Bryn Pystill and the local community took part during the summer holidays.
They worked closely with four professional artists over 4 weeks exploring the theme “Imagine Utopia” which marks 500 years since the publication of Thomas More’s influential text. Nial Evans used sounds and music alongside breath, feelings and imagination to create an ideal world. Caroline Lowe created 2D and 3D depictions of things suggested for our fantastic and futuristic world. Brian Jones made collages with the group from old newspaper clippings, various paper art and recycled materials. Sharon Calder explored Utopia using theatre techniques, storytelling and music empowering all to get involved and express themselves.
