It was a great day for the opening of the new active travel pathway around Llanfyllin Primary and Secondary school. We worked with Spike Blackhurst, a Blacksmith, to turn the competition winner from the Ysgol Uwchradd Llanfyllin High School competition to design the sculpture back in February into a reality. We were joined today by Llanfyllin Primary School to help celebrate the active travel route which was opened by county councillors, Myfanwy Alexander and Peter Lewis. The aim of the sculpture and the new route is to encourage pupils to be more active and to consider travelling to school by more sustainable means such as walking and cycling. The winning design included elements such as the dragon’s feet and the bicycle wheel to highlight active travel to the pupils and the wider community. It was funded by Sustrans Cymru / Welsh Government.

Roedd yn ddiwrnod gwych i agor y llwybr teithio llesol newydd o amgylch Ysgol Gynradd Llanfyllin ac Ysgol Uwchradd. Buom yn gweithio gyda Spike Blackhurst, a Gof, i droi’r enillydd cystadleuaeth gan y gystadleuaeth Ysgol Ysgol Uwchradd Uwchradd Llanfyllin i ddylunio’r cerflun ôl ym mis Chwefror yn realiti. Ymunodd heddiw gan Ysgol Gynradd Llanfyllin i helpu i ddathlu llwybr teithio byw a agorwyd gan gynghorwyr sir, Myfanwy Alexander a Peter Lewis. Nod y cerflun ac mae’r llwybr newydd yw annog disgyblion i fod yn fwy egnïol ac i ystyried teithio i’r ysgol drwy ddulliau mwy cynaliadwy fel cerdded a beicio. Roedd y dyluniad buddugol yn cynnwys elfennau megis traed y ddraig a’r olwyn beic i amlygu teithio byw i’r disgyblion ac i’r gymuned ehangach. Cafodd ei ariannu gan Sustrans Cymru / Llywodraeth Cymru.
