The project aimed to raise awareness of the plight of the bees amongst children from North Powys and their local communities. Buttington Trewern, Llanfyllin and Banw school worked with Hilary and Graham Roberts in a variety of media and processes integrating STEAM – ranging from graphic design, constructional design, film, ceramics, glass and textiles. Buttington Trewern pupils looked at the project from a “bee” point of view i.e. what would a bee look for in finding a home and built a full size working “bee hotel” together with sales brochures. Llanfyllin‘s made an animation illustrating a day in the life of a beehive using 2D paper animation and pixelation, Banw undertook a business and enterprise approach to their artistic outcomes. The pupils researched the flowers that are beneficial to bees together with candles and candle light. This generated ideas for saleable art products – packaged seed bombs, ceramic candle holders and wall posters. The project culminated in a very successful “Gwenyn Prysur” fair held for parents and the village. The project was funded by the Arts Council of Wales Creative Collaborations fund (supported by Welsh Government).
Nod y prosiect oedd codi ymwybyddiaeth o drafferthion y gwenyn ymhlith plant o Ogledd Powys a’u cymunedau lleol. Gweithiodd ysgolion Buttington Trewern, Llanfyllin a Banw gyda Hilary a Graham Roberts mewn amrywiaeth o gyfryngau a phrosesau gan integreiddio STEAM – yn amrywio o ddylunio graffig, dylunio adeiladu, ffilm, cerameg, gwydr a thecstilau. Edrychodd disgyblion Buttington Trewern ar y prosiect o safbwynt “gwenynen” h.y. beth fyddai gwenynen yn chwilio amdano wrth ddod o hyd i gartref ac adeiladasant “gwesty gwenyn” maint llawn gweithredol ynghyd â llyfrynnau gwerthu. Gwnaeth Llanfyllin animeiddiad yn darlunio diwrnod ym mywyd cwch gwenyn gan ddefnyddio animeiddio papur 2D a phicseli, ymgymerodd Banw â dull busnes a menter at eu canlyniadau artistig. Ymchwiliodd y disgyblion i’r blodau sy’n fuddiol i wenyn ynghyd â chanhwyllau a golau cannwyll. Cynhyrchodd hyn syniadau ar gyfer cynhyrchion celf gwerthadwy – bomiau hadau wedi’u pecynnu, deiliaid canhwyllau ceramig a phosteri wal. Arweiniodd y prosiect at ffair “Gwenyn Prysur” lwyddiannus iawn a gynhaliwyd i rieni a’r pentref. Ariannwyd y prosiect gan gronfa Cydweithrediadau Creadigol Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru (a gefnogir gan Lywodraeth Cymru).
